Halesworth Town Council Election - Update

An election has been called for the two vacant seats on the Town Council.  The election will be held on the 1st March.  If you are interested in standing for election to become a Town Councillor, you can now download an application pack here.  If you are unable to print the forms, please come in to the Clerk's office where we will be able to help you.  A person wishing to stand for election, also has to have a proposer and a seconder to sign their forms.  The forms have to be hand delivered to the Waveney District Council Electoral Services office at 2 Canning Road, Lowestoft, NR33 0EQ by 4pm on the 2nd February.

Second Councillor Vacancy

We would like to inform residents that a second vacancy has arisen on the Town Council. An election has been called for the first vacancy which will take place in due course see here for details.

In order for a combined election to be held for both seats the District Council will require 10 local elector’s signatures before the 16th January 2018.  If no election is called the Council will co-opt for the second seat.

The election will be organised and run by Waveney District Council and will cost Halesworth Town Council approximately £6000 this will include the costs for poll cards, ballot papers, postal votes, polling stations, staff costs, clerical fees etc.

Call for New Street Names

builderThe Council are asking residents to suggest possible new street names for the developments that may go ahead in Halesworth in the future.  This is a chance to be involved in creating a small piece of history.  The suggested names need to follow guidelines from Waveney District Council (see below).  Recent new names that have been accepted are 'Palfrey Place' named after the Medieval sale of horses 0r 'Palfreys' that used to take place on the site and 'Laurie Shepherd Close' after the  Middle School Arts teacher.

Other suggestions received that are being considered are Zemke Way (After US Colonel Hubert Zemke based at Holton during WW2) and a road named after Dame Tamsyn Imison for her years of service to Halesworth In Bloom.
