Free Parking set to return to Halesworth

Following recent discussions with Halesworth businesses, the Town Council in collaboration with District Cllr Tony Goldson have hopefully been successful in negotiating a deal with Waveney District Council to reinstate the free one hour parking in the Thoroughfare car park.

The Council will meet on Monday the 20th June, 2016 to formalise the agreement and it is hoped that the ticket machines will be re calibrated within the next 2 or 3 weeks in order to bring the much needed free parking back to Halesworth.

The finer details of the agreement are yet to be finalised but the offer is a significant improvement over the original offer made to the Council back in November 2015. The Council hopes that with the voluntary support of local businesses, local parish councils and our District Councillor, the financial impact will be minimised. Negotiations with WDC for future years will commence in September 2016.

A report of the meeting with the businesses on the 8th June here.

Aviva Women's Tour

The 2016 Aviva Women's Cycle Tour arrived in Halesworth to crowds of on-lookers hoping for a glimpse of some of the world's top women cyclists.  The rolling road block kept the cyclists safe and added to the general excitement of the event.  The stage was eventually won by Christine Majerus from Luxembourg riding for Boels Dolmans Cyclingteam in Norwich.

Queen's Birthday Celebrations

Saturday the 11th June saw Halesworth celebrate the Queen's 90th birthday with a picnic in the park in the sunshine.  A jazz band kept the crowds entertained and the children were given a free ice cream.  After singing 'Happy Birthday' to Her Majesty, the delicious cake made by Farmhouse Bakery was cut up and enjoyed.

Halesworth in Bloom organised an event at the railway station with around 350 people waiting for the arrival of the musical train.   The Southwold and Reydon Corp of Drums alighted and played a selection of music. Teas and a beautifully decorated cake were also provided.

A big thank-you to all those involved who helped make the day a enjoyable success.

Opening of the new play park

IMG_0597The sun was shinning on the 29th May for the celebration of the new children's play area in Halesworth.  The event was well supported by local organisations and businesses. There was a BBQ run by Halesworth Lions and Dynamo Disco playing games with the children. Melons greengrocers were selling strawberries and cream, fresh fruit salads and juices.  Marmalade had a stall selling children's clothes and toys.  Making the most of the sunshine was an ice cream van.  There was also a cake stall and Sweets Galore providing sweet treats.  An animal corner delighted the children and raised money for the Scouts.  There was face painting and CourtnIMG_0599ey Parker ran 3 stalls raising money for the Blayze’ing Star Charity. The park played host to Beach Radio who bought along the famous Beach Bunny, who the children adored.  Throughout the day the park was really busy and children had a wonderful time.  Thank-you to all those who supported the event.
